Vista Collina at The Meritage
Vista Collina earns its spot on a technicality we're happy to exploit: it is one...
River Terrace Inn backs directly onto the Napa River and the nature preserve across from it, a setting the hotel has leaned into rather than paved over: riverside rooms open onto balconies facing the water, and the walking path out front made Fodor's list of the best riverwalks in the country. It was also Napa Valley's first Green Certified hotel, a distinction that shows up less in marketing language than in a property that simply sits lighter on its riverfront site than its neighbors. Herons and egrets working the preserve across the water are a more common sight from the balcony than anything resembling a parking lot.
We selected River Terrace because it solves a problem most downtown Napa hotels don't: a river view and genuine walkability at the same time, without the highway noise that competing properties on Soscol Avenue can't avoid. The recently renovated Luxury Rooms and Suites keep the casual-elegant tone the hotel is known for rather than chasing a more formal register the location doesn't call for, and the Green Certification adds a credential that costs nothing in comfort. Part of the Noble House Hotels & Resorts portfolio, it also runs with an independent-minded character that a straight chain property on the same street doesn't bother with.
Oxbow Public Market, the Napa Valley Wine Train depot and the Copia culinary center all sit about a five-minute walk along the river, and downtown Napa's tasting rooms and restaurants are reachable on foot from there without circling back for a car. The Vine Trail, the valley's dedicated bike path, starts close enough that a rental from the front desk turns into a real ride rather than a loop around the parking lot. Soscol Avenue itself carries more traffic than the river side of the property ever feels, which matters for anyone choosing a room on noise alone.

ALBA Bar + Café runs its patio and terrace as a genuine destination rather than a captive breakfast room, pouring a full bar alongside the morning service and staying open into the evening for guests who'd rather not walk back from downtown for a nightcap. It is a small detail, but it means the hotel doesn't empty out after checkout the way a pure business-travel property would. The lobby bar offers a quieter indoor alternative on the valley's rare cold or smoky-sky evenings, when the patio isn't the draw it usually is.
